"Departure Time Indefinite" depicts a ficticious scene that represents the early days of US airline operations. A cold weather front has swept through the area, bringing low ceilings, patches of fog, and a chilly rain that temporarily suspends the departure of a scheduled flight. The copilot and stewardess kill time in casual discussion as they watch the rain from under the airport terminal awning, while nearby an impatient passenger smokes a cigarette and checks his watch. Aircraft fuelers, caught midway through their task, have retreated to the shelter of the Douglas DC-2's underside to stay dry. Meanwhile, the local flight school operator takes advantage of the moment to catch up on maintenance of their WACO IBA, to be ready when the weather improves.
